Listen To The Voice of Reason

Buddy can you spare a dime

Buddy, can you spare a dime

Chickens coming home to roost

Listen to any Conservative Talk Radio program and you will hear the constant chant of wealth redistribution. The host of these program beat a constant drumbeat about wealth being taken from top income earners and given to those at the bottom of the rung. It is alleged that our tax policies are designed to take from the rich and give to the poor.  I struggle with this assertion, because the rich are getting richer, while those at the middle and bottom are getting poorer. If the wealthiest of this nation are being overly taxed, why do they continue to get richer? If the less fortunate are getting all of these perks, why are they getting poorer?

Is it possible that our system is designed to give advantages to those who have much at the expense of those who have little? Look at the ruckus that an increase in the minimum wage caused. People, especially those of the conservative persuasion alleged the increase would cause irreparable damage to the U.S. economy.  Avid listeners of talk radio took the bait, hook, line and sinker. One has to wonder how individuals like Hannity, Limbaugh, Boortz and other manipulators of truth on radio and TV can sit back and complain about the less fortunate asking for a living wage, while raking in millions. Let me make one thing clear, I do not begrudge these talking heads for their ability to make lots of money, while producing absolutely nothing. Think for a moment, if these folks went away tomorrow, how would it impact this nation? I wonder how those who have bought books put out by these folks and supported their programs and positions on almost any subject are feeling, now that this downturn in economic prosperity has visited them. Many of these same folks are now jobless, cannot pay their bills and are losing their homes. They can’t even afford to put gasoline in their autos and heat their homes. I wonder if their feelings about needing assistance have changed.

There is a sad commentary to this wealth redistribution scare. Many avid listeners and supporters of Conservative Talk Shows are now feeling economic pains they thought were reserved for the lazy, welfare moms and deadbeats. It would be very easy to say to these folks,” You are getting exactly what you deserve, because have you put too much faith and confidence in what Conservative talking heads are saying” I have often wondered how long people would continue to cling to the teaching of talk radio. During the Korean War, there was a word for what is taking place-Brainwashing.  Unrelenting barrages of chatter lamenting the dangers of wealth redistribution have replaced logical reasoning in many Talk Show listeners.

It has become entirely too easy for people to look down on the downtrodden and less fortunate. A significant number of people thought they were beyond the reaches of misfortunes and loss of income. Talking head had convinced them that all they had to do was tune in each day and get their dose of advice on any subject, including wealth and finance, and all would be fine.  Someone sang a song titled” I pity the fool.” It is difficult to not have some pity for those who have allowed Conservative Talk Radio to lead them down a path of self-destruction and created in them, a sense of invincibility.
